Introduction to STCS Vigyan Vidushi 2024

The STCS Vigyan Vidushi 2024 programme is a summer school designed to introduce women with undergraduate and postgraduate backgrounds to advanced topics in theoretical computer and systems sciences. The two-week programme will be held from 15th July to 26th July 2024 at the TIFR Mumbai campus.

Programme Details

The programme will consist of short technical courses taught by faculty from STCS, TIFR, supplemented by problem-solving sessions to enhance students' understanding. The aim is to provide participants with exposure to contemporary topics in theoretical computer and systems sciences and to promote research in computer science as a career among women.

Eligibility Criteria

The programme is intended for women who have completed or are currently in their third year of undergraduate education in CS/EE/ECE/Maths/Stats or related fields. Students already enrolled in a PhD programme are not eligible for the summer school. Applicants should also have taken basic courses in linear algebra and probability.

Programme Structure

• The programme includes several distinguished lectures and workshops by eminent scientists.
• A mentoring session will be conducted by students and faculty from TIFR and outside.
• A distinguished lecture series consisting of eminent scientists will be part of the programme to give insights into current research trends.

• 16th July: Gems in Computer Science, Open session
• 17th July: Open session
• 18th July: Distinguished Lecture by Krishna S
• 19th July: Fun Trivia Quiz
• 20th July: No scheduled activities

Week 2

• 21st July: Algorithms on Graphs, Introduction to Quantum Computing
• 22nd July: Algorithms on Graphs, Introduction to Quantum Computing
• 23rd July: Mentoring session
• 24th July: TIFR Art Walk
• 25th July: Distinguished Lecture by Aparna Taneja
• 26th July: Closing

Special Sessions

The programme includes several special sessions:

• Distinguished lectures by Aparna Taneja, Kavitha Telikepalli, and Krishna S
• Workshops, including a mentoring session and a workshop conducted by Prof Vandana Nanal

Logistics

• Participants will be provided with on-campus accommodation.
• Travel reimbursement and a stipend will be provided.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Accommodation is only offered to participants and not to any accompanying person or family member.
• Travel reimbursement is eligible for 3AC return fare between Mumbai and the participant's place of origin.
• Taxi fare from the airport or train station can be reimbursed upon providing a receipt.
