Program Overview
Speech-language pathologists assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of communication and swallowing impairments. These services are provided to individuals:
- Across the lifespan, from birth through adulthood
- From diverse linguistic, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Who may have multiple disabilities
Graduates of the program are eligible for certification and licensure in the field of speech-language pathology, preparing them to make a meaningful impact in clinical, educational, and community settings.

Curriculum
The MA SLP program can be entered by students with or without a speech/hearing-related undergraduate degree. Those entering with a degree related to speech/hearing will complete the 55 credit hour standard program. Those without a related degree will complete an additional "lateral" year at the beginning before moving into the standard program. All students must also successfully complete a comprehensive examination during their final semester to display competence in their summative knowledge to graduate from the program.

Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the MA SLP program, applicants must have met the following requirements:
- Complete a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university prior to enrollment in the program
- Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 hours of coursework applied to a degree OR a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in graded graduate coursework of 12 or more hours
- There are no required prerequisite courses, however, it is recommended that applicants complete coursework in Biology, Physics or Chemistry, Behavioral or Social Science, and Statistics before beginning the curriculum or during the first year of the professional degree program

Accreditation
The Master of Arts (M.A.) education program in speech-language pathology (residential), at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
