Program Overview


SBWL Supply Networks and Services

The SBWL "Supply Networks and Services" provides graduates with comprehensive knowledge on theories, methods, and models supporting companies' and non-profit organizations' decision processes in the area of Supply Chain Management. Specialization courses on Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Disaster Relief Supply Chain Management are offered, as well as the possibility to improve project management capabilities in a dedicated seminar.


Structure of the SBWL in Bachelor Studies

The program is structured as follows:


  • 1st Semester:
    • Course I: Introduction to Supply Chain Management (in English)
    • Course II: Analysis and Optimization of Distribution Networks (in English)
    • Course III: Supply Chain Modeling and Design (in English)
  • 2nd Semester:
    • Humanitarian Logistics (in English)
    • Sustainable Logistics (in English)
    • Seminar "Humanitarian Logistics" (in English)
    • Seminar "Sustainable Logistics" (in English)

Minimum Duration of SBWL

The minimum duration of the SBWL is 2 semesters.


Requirements for Participation

A positive grade in Course I is required for participation in Course 4 and Course 5. It is not possible to take courses of the SBWL as a co-registered student.


Enrollment Process of the SBWL

The SBWL starts each semester with up to 40 students. The formal requirements for admission to an SBWL at WU must be met. Admission to the SBWL requires the successful completion of the access course "Access to Specialization: Supply Networks and Services" (see WU Course Catalog).


Steps for Enrollment

  1. Step 1: Register for access to the specializations via the new registration tool @myWU Access to Specializations.
  2. Step 2: Admission to the SBWL is based on a written letter of application and previous academic performance.
    • Written letter of application (weight 1/3): Upload a letter of motivation and a CV in the access course under "Assignments" by the specified deadline.
    • Previous academic performance (weight 2/3): Student ranking based on grade point average.
  3. Step 3: Once students have successfully completed the admission procedure, they can select their specialization in the LPIS study plan and register for the respective courses.

Courses

1st Semester:

  • Course I: Introduction to Supply Chain Management (English): Introduces students to the basic principles and concepts of Supply Chain Management.
  • Course II: Analysis and Optimization of Distribution Networks (English): Provides basic principles and methods to analyze and optimize distribution networks.
  • Course III: Supply Chain Modeling and Design (English): Provides an overview of current challenges and aspects related to Supply Chain Modeling.

2nd Semester:

  • Course IV: Humanitarian Logistics (English): Investigates the special requirements of logistics in disasters.
  • Course IV: Sustainable Logistics (English): Focuses on environmental and sustainable concerns arising in logistics.
  • Course V: Research Seminar - Humanitarian and Sustainable Logistics (English): Students apply theoretical and practical insights from the parallel course in humanitarian or sustainable logistics to their own research and scientific work.

Registration of Bachelor Thesis

Students need to set up a meeting with their advisor within one month after completing Course V. At this meeting, it is required to sign the registration agreement; otherwise, there is no guarantee for supervision in the SBWL SNS.
