Program Overview

The Doctoral School offers a program in Information and Communication Technology, which is a full-time, third-cycle studies program. The program is conducted in English and has an admission limit of 30 students. The duration of the program is 8 semesters.

Program Details

• The doctoral training of a PhD student takes place according to an individual study program of an interdisciplinary nature, determined by the doctoral student together with the supervisor.
• Every PhD student must complete the following courses:
  • Recent research trends in scientific discipline (30h)
  • Research skills (30h)
  • Ethical and legal aspects of scientific activity (15h)
  • Teaching skills (15h)
  • Personal development (15h)
  • Seminars (60h, 4x15)
  • Academic English (60h, 2x30)
  • Elective courses (in total 60h)
• The PhD student chooses courses from the list of available courses proposed by the Doctoral School.
• The PhD student may also attend other courses and trainings, winter and summer PhD schools, etc.

• Artificial intelligence - methods and techniques
• Methods, techniques and processes in advanced communication systems
• Algorithmics and optimisation methods
• Software engineering
• Cybersecurity

Admission Process

• The admission process is carried out by recruitment committees for each scientific discipline (field).
• The admission to the Doctoral School is an open competition in each discipline, based on a point system.
• Candidates are assessed by the recruitment committees on a 0-10 point scale in four evaluation criteria:
  • Command of English language, B2 level is required (language certificates, diploma, transcript of records, etc.) - weight 1
  • Description of the initial concept of the doctoral dissertation - weight 1
  • Scientific activity, research and development activity or other activity (e.g., publications, conferences, projects, patents, internships) - weight 4
  • Interview - weight 4
• The maximum score is 100 points.

Recruitment Procedure

• The ranking list is determined separately for each scientific discipline on the basis of the recruitment scores obtained by individual candidates.
• Candidates are qualified depending on their position on the ranking list, up to the number of places awarded for a given discipline, but it is also required to obtain a minimum recruitment score, i.e., at least 50 points out of 100 possible.

Funding

• The doctoral scholarship is funded by the university for basic recruitment.
• For recruitment of candidates with obtained funding from other sources outside the University, admission to the Doctoral School is conditional on achieving the minimum recruitment score and fulfilling other requirements on which funding is dependent.
