Program overview
The Master's program in Law (MLaw) at the University of St.Gallen offers comprehensive training in law. The language of instruction is German.
Requirements
- Recognized bachelor's degree in law from a Swiss university
- Language requirements in German as the language of instruction: No proof of language skills is required when applying, but it is recommended that you achieve a level of at least C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) in all language skills before starting your studies.
Admission requirements
- Applicants with a bachelor's degree in law from a Swiss university do not have to provide any specialist achievements as admission requirements, although evidence may be required.
- Language admission requirements: Before completing their master's degree, all students must take two language courses (foreign languages) in addition to their master's degree as requirements. Recognition of recognized external language certificates is possible during the master's program.
- Proof of sufficient accounting knowledge: Before completing the master's degree, all students must demonstrate sufficient accounting knowledge. If this knowledge has already been acquired during your previous studies, the proof will be credited towards admission. Otherwise, the University of St.Gallen accounting exam must be completed.
Registration
- Studies begin in the fall or spring semester.
- Registration takes place online and the registration fee is CHF 250.
- Registration deadlines:
- Fall semester: October 1st - April 30th
- Spring semester: October 1st - November 30th

- Signed “General Provisions/Matriculation Agreement”
- Passport or identity card and, if available, Swiss residence permit or Swiss settlement permit
- Resume (style template/MLaw, MLE style template)
- University entrance qualification certificate (Maturity or foreign qualification certificate)
- Degree completion documents (diploma, certificate of completion, diploma supplement), if already available. Otherwise, current official transcripts of records from each university attended (including exchange studies and transcripts of records from study programs that have not been completed). At least 120 ECTS credits of completed work must be shown in the current transcript.
Next steps after online registration
- The admissions office checks the data and the documents submitted electronically.
- Feedback will be given no later than six weeks after complete online registration.
- The admission or rejection decision will be delivered to the electronic mailbox (Compass mailbox).
- Admission is subject to submission until the final certificate is submitted. A certified copy of the degree certificate and confirmation of exmatriculation must be submitted by the start of your studies at the latest.
