M.Tech + PhD (Dual Degree) Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati offers a Dual Degree program, which combines a Master of Technology (M.Tech) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in various specializations.

Program Overview

The Dual Degree program is designed to attract talented students with bachelor's degrees in relevant fields. The program is well-received by industries and educational institutions, and it provides students with a comprehensive education in their chosen specialization.

Specializations

The M.Tech + PhD (Dual Degree) program is offered in the following specializations:

  • Aerospace and Propulsion
  • Manufacturing Science and Engineering
  • Computational Mechanics
  • Fluids and Thermal Engineering
  • Machine Design

Rules and Regulations

The program is governed by the Master's + PhD degree ordinance of the institute. Students are admitted to the program in the regular category, and they must have a valid GATE score. The admission process follows the rules of the institute for regular PhD candidates.

Program Structure

The program consists of three semesters of coursework, followed by PhD research. Students must complete a minimum of 12 PG-level courses with a minimum aggregate of 72 credits. After completing the coursework, students are permitted to begin their PhD research.
