The program in question is "Иностранный язык в сфере профессиональной коммуникации," which translates to "Foreign Language in the Sphere of Professional Communication." This program is designed to enhance language and speech skills, increase proficiency in a foreign language to the C1 level according to the international CEFR scale, and develop communicative and linguistic competencies.
Program Goals and Objectives
The primary goal of this elective course is to perfect language and speech skills, and to increase the level of proficiency in a foreign language. The objectives include:
- Achieving a high level of linguistic competence, including the ability to correctly perceive and use units of speech based on knowledge of phonological, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic features of the studied language.
- Developing sociolinguistic competence, which involves the ability to adequately use realities, background knowledge, and situationally conditioned forms of communication.
- Enhancing sociocultural competence, which is the ability to consider speech and behavioral models accepted in the corresponding culture during communication.
- Improving social competence, which enables interaction with communication partners, entering into contact, and maintaining it by mastering necessary strategies.
- Cultivating discursive competence, which is the ability to communicate considering the intercultural context.
- Developing strategic competence, which involves the ability to apply different strategies for understanding oral and written texts, as well as for maintaining successful interaction during oral and written communication.
- Achieving pragmatic competence, which is the ability to understand and generate foreign language discourse, taking into account culturally conditioned differences.
- Enhancing general competence, which includes knowledge about the country and the world, as well as the ability to expand and perfect one's own worldview, navigate media sources of information.
- Developing cognitive competence, which is the ability to plan goals, course, and results of educational and research activities, use the experience of studying the native and other languages, independently reveal patterns of their functioning, and use search and analytical abilities.
- Cultivating intercultural competence, which is the ability to achieve mutual understanding in intercultural contacts by using the entire arsenal of skills for realizing communicative intentions.
- Achieving compensatory competence, which is the ability to avoid misunderstandings and overcome communication barriers or failures by using known speech and metalanguage means.
- Developing professional competence, which is the ability to conduct business and official communication in a professional environment both in the country and abroad.
Program Structure
The program is structured into several themes and levels, including:
- Level B2, which covers topics such as management issues, work and motivation, company structure, international cooperation, employment problems, women in business, and the digital economy.
- Level C1 (part 1), which includes discussions on the education system, prestigious universities, creating psychological comfort, and actual problems of modern medicine, as well as advertising in modern society.
- Level C1 (part 2), which explores the development of humanity in the future, the influence of modern technologies on learning, the impact of human activity on the environment, and the pros and cons of space exploration.
Competencies
Upon completion of the program, graduates should possess the following competencies:
- УК-4: The ability to conduct business communication in oral and written forms in the state language of the Russian Federation and in a foreign language(s).
