The tasks of studying the academic discipline include:
- Studying the systems of the past that made the greatest contribution to the formation of the modern state and law.
- Examining the emergence, development, and functioning of the state and law in countries that have had the greatest influence on the history of statehood.
- Enriching students with knowledge of state and legal phenomena in individual foreign countries of the world in the process of their emergence and development in a specific historical setting, in chronological sequence, based on the identification of both general historical patterns of these processes and patterns operating within the framework of those historical epochs that are the most important stages in the development of specific societies.
