The program in question is " ," which translates to "Foreign Language in the Sphere of Professional Communication." This program is designed to enhance language and speech skills, increase proficiency in a foreign language to the B2+ level according to the international CEFR scale, and develop communicative and linguistic competencies.


Program Goals and Objectives

The primary goal of this elective course is to perfect language and speech skills, and to increase the level of proficiency in a foreign language. The objectives of the course include the sequential mastery by students of a set of competencies and the step-by-step progression through the advanced B2+ level. The main competencies to be mastered within the framework of studying this discipline include:


  • Communicative competence, which encompasses:
    • Linguistic competence, i.e., the ability to adequately perceive and correctly use units of speech based on knowledge of phonological, grammatical, lexical, stylistic features of the studied language.
    • Sociolinguistic competence, i.e., the ability to adequately use realities, background knowledge, situationally conditioned forms of communication.
    • Sociocultural competence, i.e., the ability to consider speech and behavioral models accepted in the relevant culture.
    • Social competence, i.e., the ability to interact with communication partners, establish contact, and maintain it, possessing the necessary strategies.
    • Discursive competence, i.e., the ability to carry out communication taking into account the intercultural context.
    • Strategic competence, i.e., the ability to apply different strategies for understanding oral/written texts and for maintaining successful interaction during oral/written communication.
  • Pragmatic competence, i.e., the ability to understand and generate foreign language discourse, considering culturally conditioned differences.
  • General competence, which includes, along with knowledge about the country and the world, and the peculiarities of the language system, also the ability to expand and improve one's own picture of the world, navigate media sources of information.
  • Cognitive competence, i.e., the ability to plan goals, course, and results of educational and research activities, use the experience of studying the native and other languages, independently reveal patterns of their functioning, and use search-analytical abilities.
  • Intercultural competence, i.e., the ability to achieve mutual understanding in intercultural contacts, using the entire arsenal of skills for realizing the communicative intention.
  • Compensatory competence, i.e., the ability to avoid misunderstandings, overcome the communicative barrier/failure due to the use of known speech and metalanguage means.
  • Professional competence, i.e., the ability to carry out business and official communication in a professional environment in the country and abroad.
