Program Overview
Master in Public Management and Policy (PMP)
The Master in Public Management and Policy (PMP) is offered by the Universitŕ della Svizzera italiana in collaboration with the universities of Losanna, the Istituto superiore di studi in amministrazione pubblica - IDHEAP, and Berna, within the framework of the Swiss Public Administration Network. Supported by the Swiss Confederation, this master's program is designed to train qualified professionals who are ready to effectively and quickly address the challenges of the contemporary public sector.
Program Structure and Content
The program is structured over two years, with 120 ECTS credits and a usual duration of 2 years. The degree conferred upon completion is a Master of Arts in Public Management and Policy.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the Master's program, students must have a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university in economics, management, political science, sociology, law, communication sciences, or an equivalent title. The admission requirements also include a language proficiency in Italian for the first year and English for the specialization in Public Policy and Sustainability.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fees for the program are CHF 4,000 per semester. For students with a legal domicile in Switzerland or Liechtenstein at the time of their matriculation, the tuition fee is CHF 2,000 per semester. Students with a domicile in Campione d'Italia may also be eligible for the reduced tuition fee under certain conditions. The payment of the tuition fee must be made at the beginning of each semester, within the deadlines indicated on the invoice, and is a necessary condition for obtaining or renewing enrollment. Various institutions, both public and private, offer scholarships to students enrolled in the Bachelor's and Master's programs at the Universitŕ della Svizzera italiana. Graduates of the Master in Public Management and Policy program can pursue various career paths, including:
- Public Sector Manager: responsible for developing and delivering public service policy agendas, managing public services, and co-formulating and co-producing with non-profit organizations and private firms.
- Managerial Roles in Public Administrations: includes managerial responsibilities in staff services, organizational development, personnel management, planning, and management control.

Specializations
The program offers various specializations, including Public Policy and Sustainability, which explores how governments, public institutions, and international organizations design, implement, and evaluate public policies aimed at promoting environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Other specializations are offered in partnership with the universities of Losanna and Berna.
Language Requirements
The language of instruction for the first year is Italian/English, and for the second year, it is English. No language certifications are required, but students must have an active competence in Italian for the first year and English for the specialization in Public Policy and Sustainability.

The Universitŕ della Svizzera italiana has campuses in Lugano, Mendrisio, and Bellinzona. The program is offered at the Lugano campus.
