The Faculty of Theology of Lugano (FTL) offers a structured program for the attainment of the Doctorate in Theology, an ecclesiastical academic title of the third cycle, representing the highest degree in university theological education.

Program Overview

The program is designed for candidates who possess a canonical License in Theology, obtained with an evaluation of 8/10 or higher. It allows for an in-depth, scientific, systematic, and critical exploration of a specific theological theme through the realization of original research under the guidance of a thesis director.

• Diploma: Doctorate in Theology
• Language of Instruction: Italian
• Duration of Studies: 3 years (6 semestri)
• Number of Credits: 10-20 ECTS (indicative, proposed by the thesis director and based on the student's needs)
• Start of Courses: Mid-September/mid-February of each academic year
• Scholarships: No monthly scholarship is provided. It is possible to request semester-based coverage of academic fees, based on merit and income.
• Academic Fees: CHF 1,000 per semester
• Ideal Number of New Students: 10 per academic year
• First Edition of the Program: 1994/1995
