Program Overview

Program Description: Metodi qualitativi e quantitativi

This course offers an introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods applied to the disciplinary context of communication sciences. After a general introduction to empirical methods, the lessons on qualitative methods delve into data collection through interviews (structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) and group discussions, data analysis, and presentation of results. The lessons dedicated to quantitative methods explore surveys, content analysis, and experiments.


Course Objectives

To obtain a positive evaluation of the course and achieve the educational objectives, the student must:


  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role and importance of qualitative and quantitative methods for communication sciences
  • Show a critical knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods for research
  • Understand the challenges associated with these methods
  • Be able to manage the entire research process starting from a research question in all its steps, from data collection and analysis to the communication and discussion of the main results

  • Know the main research methods in communication sciences
  • Understand the adequacy of a method for a specific research question
  • Acquire experience in developing research projects based on real questions
  • Develop practical skills in data collection, analysis, and interpretation
