The Informatica: fondamenti program is a foundational course in computer science, designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Course Description

The course is divided into four main parts:

• Introduction to Computer Science: historical evolution, hardware, and software
• Database Fundamentals: relational databases (MS Access), XML, and markup languages
• Data Analysis: R programming language with mathematical and economic exercises, Excel
• Presentation of Analyses: structured document editing, introduction to LaTeX

The course materials are based on slides and exercises provided through the E-Learning platform, with additional materials indicated during the course for personal study.

Course Objectives

The course has two main objectives:

• To acquire computer science tools useful for tackling various economic and quantitative disciplines in the academic path
• To lay the foundation for future professional development in computer science

Teaching Methods

The course is taught in person, with a pedagogical approach that includes:

• Classroom lessons
• Laboratory exercises
• Self-assessment tests with multiple-choice questions
• Autonomous exercises

Assessment Methods

The evaluation is conducted exclusively on a computer at the end of the course and is divided into two parts:

• A set of multiple-choice questions on all topics presented (except sections assigned for reading only)
• R exercises of varying complexity to be completed using the RStudio editor
