Tourism Planning Program

Profile

The Tourism Planning program aims to provide a broad perspective on the role and significance of tourism in contemporary society, encouraging critical reflection on the factors and dynamics that shape its development and its territorial impacts.


Description

Students will be introduced to the subject of tourism planning, addressing basic concepts, principles, and elements, and emphasizing critical issues in the context of sustainable tourism development. Aspects such as resource management and the role of the local community will be the subject of in-depth analyses and discussions, in which theoretical considerations will be combined with the presentation of emblematic case studies. Special attention will also be devoted to the features and challenges of tourism development in the Global South. In this regard, part of the course will be devoted to tourism in Africa and in particular to understanding the peculiarities of tourism development and tourism planning approaches in the African context.


Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:


  • critically reflect on the role and significance of tourism in the context of contemporary society;
  • identify the key components of the tourism system;
  • understand the basic concepts, approaches, and principles of tourism planning;
  • discuss critical issues in tourism planning for sustainable tourism development;
  • analyse case studies of tourism development and understand the specific challenges of tourism planning in the Global South.
