Program Overview
Project Management Course
Description
The Project Management course explores the reasons behind project failures and the factors that contribute to cost and time overruns. It covers three essential aspects of project management:
- The theory, methods, and quantitative tools used to effectively plan, organize, and control projects
- Techniques for managing projects more effectively revealed through practice and research
- Hands-on, practical project management knowledge from optimization and simulation exercises
Objectives
The course introduces students to the basic principles, methods, and tools for managing projects in realistic contexts. The objectives include:
- Understanding the theory underlying the methods and tools of project management (WBS, CPM, LP, DSM, PERT, EVM, RM, SD)
- Applying Project Management methods and tools in practice, understanding their limitations
- Learning from each other through class discussions and small group assignments

Teaching Method
The course is taught in person, with class sessions combining lectures, interactive exercises, group presentations, and discussions. Students are expected to engage in and prepare for discussions, participate actively during class, and review readings and assignments for their applicability to concepts covered in class. Class attendance must be at least 80% of classes.
Assessment
The assessment consists of:
- Class participation: 20%
- Assignments: 40%
- Final exam: 40%
