2016 Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners
The Summer School is organised by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI).
Description
The Summer School will offer the opportunity to around 20 journalists and media practitioners to learn about the latest policy, market, and professional trends in the area, as well as to share their experiences, ideas, and points of view. The Summer School programme is structured around keynote presentations by distinguished experts and follow-up interactive sessions.

Participants
The Summer School is open to journalists and other stakeholders in the media industry. The selection of participants will be made by the CMPF based on the information provided in the application form.
Presenters
Khaled Alesmael
Born in Syria, he studied English Literature at Damascus University. In 2005, he started his career as a journalist at Syria Tomorrow, one of the first independent radio stations in the country.
Lorena Boix Alonso
Lorena Boix Alonso is the Head of Unit for Converging Media and Content Unit, Directorate General for Communications Networks Content and Technology since July 2012.
Marzia Bona
Online Editor and Research Assistant, MA in International Relations at the University of Bologna, she specialized in area studies focusing on South-East Europe.
Alexenia Dimitrova
Mrs. Alexenia Dimitrova is an investigative journalist and researcher with more than 25 years of experience.
Ricardo Gutiérrez
General Secretary of the European Federation of Journalists, Ricardo Gutiérrez is a senior lecturer at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
Miguel Poiares Maduro
Miguel Poiares Maduro is Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute, where he was the Founding Director of the Global Governance Programme.

Fees and Scholarships
- Fee: €1000. The fees include: 5 nights' hotel accommodation, all tuition, all course materials, access to the EUI library, wifi access at the EUI, social activities, lunches, and coffee breaks on lecture days.
- Scholarships: We offer fifteen (15) full scholarships for participants of our Summer School for Journalists and Media Professionals.

A Certificate will be awarded to each participant who has successfully completed the training course.
About the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom
The aim of the CMPF is to enhance the awareness of the importance of freedom and pluralism of the media, to contribute to its protection and promotion, and to develop new ideas among academics, policymakers, regulators, market stakeholders, journalists, and all other directly involved professionals who take part in the public debate.

The Centre's activities include Research (interdisciplinary studies, conducted by the residential research team), Debate (conferences and seminars held by high-profile academics and stakeholders), Training (workshops and annual Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners), and Dissemination of results and outcomes (publication of working papers, policy studies, and reports).
