Art Education Program
The Art Education Program prepares students to teach art in secondary education and meet the requirements for South Dakota teacher certification. Art education majors develop their own artistic skills while preparing to teach and inspire the next generation through creative, K-12 learning.
Degree Offered
The School of Design offers a professional Bachelor of Fine Art in studio art with a specialization in art education. This degree is comprised of art and design studio experiences, art history lecture courses, and the teacher education sequence of courses.
Studio Art (BFA) Overview
Students study a variety of art-making methods and techniques, as well as meet the requirements for South Dakota teacher certification.

Program Requirements
Students complete 65 credits in studio art and design-related studies, 30 credits in teacher education, along with 35 credits of institutional requirements and additional electives to reach 128 credits needed for graduation.
