Program Overview

The Residency Administrator Certificate (Principal) is designed for educators who hold a master's degree or are currently enrolled in a master's program. The program offers two options: a Certificate and a Master's in Educational Administration (M.Ed.) with a Residency Principal Certificate.


Program Objectives

The program is designed for three types of candidates:


  • Aspiring Principals: Designed for educators who hold a master's degree or are currently enrolled in a master's program, and wish to earn the Washington State residency principal's certificate.
  • Aspiring Principals: Designed for educators who wish to acquire their residency principal's certificate while earning a master's degree.
  • Aspiring Teacher Leaders: Designed for elementary and secondary school educators who wish to earn a master's degree focused on school leadership.

Admission Criteria

The admission criteria for the program include:


  • Prior Education:
    • Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; 3.0 undergraduate GPA in the last 90 quarter credit hours (60 semester credit hours).
  • Current Certification:
    • Valid Washington State teacher or educational staff associate (ESA) certificate.
    • Valid Washington State teacher or educational staff associate (ESA) certificate or valid BC teaching certificate.
  • Prerequisite Experience:
    • Three years of documented successful school-based experience in an instructional role with students is required by completion of the program.

Internship

The program includes a year-long internship:


  • EDAD 592 Field Experience in Administration for the Principal (12 credits)
