Administrative Internship (PLSC 444)

The Administrative Internship is a credit-bearing course that links academic learning to meaningful work experience. To be eligible, students must:


  • Complete two courses in the appropriate field
  • Be acceptable to the agency
  • Obtain permission from the Internship Coordinator

Registration, Credits, and Working Hours

  • Initial contact with the Intern Coordinator should be made one quarter in advance for local internships and two quarters in advance for state and federal internships.
  • Credit may be divided over two quarters for placements requiring more than ten weeks.
  • Only 10 credits of internship may be counted toward the Political Science major; up to 5 internship credits count toward the minor.

Academic Requirements

  • Placement information summary form must be submitted to the Intern Coordinator during the first week of the internship.
  • Interns must write three short reflection papers on their experience.
  • A project report or paper is required, depending on the nature of the internship.
  • An internship portfolio is due on the first day of finals week, including placement information, reflection papers, project report or paper, and other required elements.

Grading Policy

The final grade is based on academic requirements and the agency supervisor's evaluation. Careful adherence to instructions is part of the course grade.
