Doctoral Course: Research Ethics and Good Research Practice

Course Information

The course is part of the courses offered for the three subjects Disability Research, Sports Science, and Medical Science within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. It is compulsory for PhD students admitted to these subjects from the autumn of 2022.

Course Main Content

The aim of the course is for doctoral students to acquire a wider knowledge base and an in-depth understanding of research ethics and good research practice. The course content is organized in four areas:


  1. Normative ethics
  2. Ethical guidelines for research and ethical review
  3. Good research practice and research integrity
  4. Gender equality and equality as quality aspects in research

Teaching Formats

The course is held on campus with lectures, seminars, and literature reading. It is held during 8 weeks at the start of each autumn semester and is planned to require 80 hours of study. The course is held in English, but if all students prefer Swedish, lectures or seminars in Swedish may occur.

The course will next run from week 36 to week 43 in 2026. There will be 4 campus-based sessions.
