Program Overview
Global Consumer Intelligence (GCI) Course
The Research and Innovation Directorate (RID) is pleased to announce the Global Consumer Intelligence (GCI) course, offered by the Matsuo-Iwasawa Lab at the University of Tokyo. This course provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience covering the full spectrum from "the purpose of studying data science" to "Python and machine learning fundamentals," and "practical data application in business settings." The course is thoughtfully designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to take their first steps as data scientists.
Course Structure
The GCI course is a three-month intensive programme comprising weekly 90–120 minute lectures, structured homework assignments, a competition, and a final capstone assignment.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the GCI course, applicants must:
- Be enrolled as a student as of April 8, 2026
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited educational program, including doctoral, master's, bachelor's, associate-level programs, technical or vocational programs, or secondary education such as high school or middle school.
- Non-degree research students are eligible only if they hold a valid student ID issued by a university or equivalent institution.
- Be able to study independently and complete the course.
