Introduction to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at Southwest University of Finance and Economics is designed to cultivate high-level, application-oriented public management professionals. The program aims to equip students with a deep understanding of economic and management theories, as well as practical skills in public administration.

Program Overview

The MPA program is committed to fostering "composite, application-oriented, high-level public management talents" who possess a strong foundation in public management theory and high-level management capabilities. The program features a dual-mentor system, where students are guided by both academic mentors and experienced government officials.

• The program offers a range of courses, including Public Management, Public Policy Analysis, Public Economics, Political Science, Macro-Economic Management and Policy, Leadership Science and Art, Strategic Management, and Management Economics.
• The program has three main research directions: Public Administration and Government Reform, Public Economics and Management, and Organizational and Human Resource Management.

Program Structure and Duration

The MPA program is offered in both full-time and part-time modes. Full-time students are required to study on campus, while part-time students attend classes on weekends. The program duration is two years, with a maximum of four years to complete.

Coursework and Dissertation

Students are required to complete coursework and a dissertation under the guidance of their mentors. The dissertation should be based on practical management issues in government departments or non-governmental public institutions.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the MPA program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a citizen of the People's Republic of China
• Support the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and have good moral character
• Be in good physical health
• Have a bachelor's degree and at least three years of work experience, or a junior college diploma or undergraduate certificate and at least five years of work experience, or a master's or doctoral degree and at least two years of work experience

Application Procedure

Applicants must register online and then confirm their application on site. The application process includes:

• Online registration: September 24-27, 2021 (pre-registration), and October 5-25, 2021 (official registration)
• On-site confirmation: November 2021 (exact date to be announced)
• Qualification review: The university will review applicants' qualifications and verify their academic credentials

Tuition Fees

The total tuition fee for the MPA program is 69,000 yuan, payable in two installments of 34,500 yuan per year.

Examination and Admission

The admission process consists of two stages: the initial examination and the re-examination. The initial examination includes a comprehensive ability test and an English test. The re-examination will be held in April 2022 and will include a public management and political theory interview, as well as a foreign language listening and speaking test.

Admission Criteria

Admission decisions will be based on the applicant's comprehensive score, political performance, and physical and mental health.

Full-time and Part-time Study

The MPA program offers both full-time and part-time study modes. Full-time students study on campus, while part-time students attend classes on weekends. Both modes lead to the same degree, but full-time students have more opportunities for scholarships and awards.
