Program Overview
Introduction to Teach in 12: Secondary Education
The University of Missouri-St. Louis offers an alternative certification program, Teach in 12, for individuals who have a bachelor's degree in any area and are interested in earning Missouri Teacher Certification in secondary education. This program is designed for those who have found success in one career but seek a new career in teaching to make a difference in the lives of others.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for the Teach in 12 program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A passing score on the designated Missouri Content Examination (ETS PRAXIS)
- A 2.75 or higher overall GPA
- Approved results of the Family Care Safety Registry
- A clear TB test or chest x-ray, if appropriate
- Students must meet the application deadlines set by the Graduate School
ETS Praxis Examination
The ETS Praxis Examination is a required component of the admission process.
Clinical Experiences
The program includes various clinical experiences, such as:
- One day teaching in a local high school
- 20 clock hours working in a community agency
- 2 site-based practicum courses immersed in a Studio School
- Practicum One: 2 days per week working as a Triton Teacher
- Practicum Two: 4 days per week working as a Triton Teacher
Unique Resources and Innovations
The program offers several unique resources and innovations, including:
- The opportunity to earn a Master of Education degree by taking 3 additional courses
- A launch session to build community, provide early guidance, and share essential information
- Grand Seminars and Collaborative Exchanges throughout the practicum experiences
