Elementary and Special Education Teaching Certification
The Elementary and Special Education Teaching Certification program is an accelerated program that allows individuals to earn Missouri teacher certification in three semesters and a summer of online courses, field experiences, and practicum. Five additional special education classes are recommended.
Program Description
This program of study is designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree who wish to prepare for teacher certification in Elementary Education and Special Education. The graduate certificate program option leads to Missouri Initial Teacher Certification in Elementary Teaching 1-6 with an add-on in Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Disabilities, K-12 Special Education.
Admission Requirements
- A passing score on the designated Missouri Content Examination or an approved program of study
- A 2.75 or higher overall GPA
- Approved results of the Family Care Safety Registry
- A clear TB test or chest x-ray, if appropriate Applicants must meet the application deadlines set by the Graduate School.
Certificate Information
Plan of Study
Prospective students who are non-Missouri residents are responsible for reviewing the state authorizations to see if this program is offered in their state throughout their program and to review the licensure or certification requirements for the state in which they reside.

The College of Education programs are accredited by CACREP, Counseling; NASP, School Psychology; and AAQEP Teacher Education.
