Program Overview
Certified Financial Planner Certification Exam
The University of Missouri-St. Louis offers a program for students to prepare for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification exam.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, students must fill out an application for admission to the University of Missouri-St. Louis. If students are taking courses to qualify for the CFP exam and do not seek to earn a degree, they should apply as non-degree seeking undergraduate students.
Program Requirements
To be eligible to sit for the CFP exam, students must successfully complete the following seven courses:
- ACCTNG 3441 | Income Taxes
- FINANCE 3520 | Investments
- FINANCE 3560 | Practice of Personal Financial Planning
- FINANCE 3561 | Principles of Insurance
- FINANCE 3563 | Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits
- FINANCE 3564 | Estate Planning and Trust
- FINANCE 3565 | Seminar in Financial Planning
Registration and Course Schedule
The semester schedule is available online, and students should register for classes as soon as possible. The courses listed above are not all offered every semester, so it is essential to take them when they are available.
Certification
The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. owns the trademarks CFP, Certified Financial Planner, and certification marks in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements. The University of Missouri-St. Louis does not certify individuals to use the CFP, Certified Financial Planner, and certification marks. CFP certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience, and examination requirements.
Accreditation
The University of Missouri-St. Louis is the only public university in the region to carry dual AACSB accreditation for its business and accounting programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
