Middle School Education (Grades 5-9)
The Middle School Education program is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching and working with students in grades 5-9. Middle school students are curious, unpredictable, and sometimes challenging, making this age group a unique and rewarding teaching experience.
Program Overview
The program is offered through the College of Education and provides students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective teachers. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for certification in middle school education, with a focus on instructional design, instructional methods, and assessment.
Teach in Residency - Middle Level Education Courses
The program includes a series of courses that are taken in a specific sequence. The courses are:
- Fall I:
- TCH ED 5310 T: Instructional Design (3 hours)
- TCH ED 6030 T: Instruction, Learning, & Assessment (Part 1) (1 hour)
- SPEC ED 6325 T: Positive Behavior Interventions (3 hours)
- Spring I:
- MID ED 4XXX T: Instructional Methods in Certification Content Area (3 hours)
- SPEC ED 6412 T: Foundations for Inclusive Education (2 hours)
- TCH ED 6000 T: Practicum for Teachers in Residence (Part 1) (1 hour)
- TCH ED 6030 B: Instruction, Learning, & Assessment (Part 2) (2 hours)
- Summer I:
- TCH ED 5312 T: Teaching Reading in Content Area (3 hours)
- ED PSY 6220T: Development of School-Aged Students (2 hours)
- Fall II:
- TCH ED 6000 T: Practicum for Teachers in Residence (Part 2) (1 hour)
