Introduction to Chungnam National University

Chungnam National University (CNU) is a prestigious institution located in the center of Korea, with a proud history of 60 years. CNU has been selected as one of the top 100 Asian universities by Asiaweek and hosts internationally distinguished faculty members. The university has partnerships with 101 foreign institutions in 39 countries and offers various employment-support programs to its students.

CNU International Language Education Center

The CNU International Language Education Center (CILEC) administers its own Korean proficiency test, which is used by applicants for CNU undergraduate and graduate programs. CILEC offers various foreign language courses, including English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Russian, and Italian. The "Korean Language Course" is CILEC's representative program, playing an important role in cultural exchange at CNU.

Korea Language Course

The Korea Language Course is designed for international students and is offered year-round, with four sessions: spring, summer, fall, and winter. The course aims to provide students with cultural information needed for the successful application of Korean. Classes are small, with many opportunities for interaction with teachers and other students.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes:

• Basic levels (1-2): principles of Korean vowels, consonants, and pronunciation, with the goal of conversing on a basic level
• Intermediate levels (3-4): in-depth training in grammar and writing, with the goal of expressing oneself mostly in Korean
• Advanced levels (5-6): understanding general social conditions of Korea, expressing oneself in Korean, and communicating freely
• Master level: speaking Korean freely, having discussions in Korean, and making moving pictures in Korean
• Pre-Univ. level: learning how to study undergraduate and graduate classes, communicating with professors and other Koreans

Class Schedule

• 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday
• Morning class: 09:00-12:50
• Afternoon class: 13:30-17:20
• Class size: at most 15 students per class

Cultural and Extracurricular Activities

• Learning about Korean culture: wearing Hanbok, Korean etiquette
• Cooking Korean food: Bulgogi, Korean soup, Bibimbab
• Cultural exploration: Andong Hahai Village, Geryongsan Pottery Village, Jeonju Hanok Village, Baekje Historical Heritage, Lotte World
• Other activities: writing contest, Korean singing contest, food festival, watching Korean movies, UCC contest

Admissions

To apply for the Korean Language Program, applicants must submit the required documents, including:

• Application form
• Consent form for collection, use, and third-party provision of personal information
• Self-introduction and study plan
• Certificate of graduation
• Academic transcript
• Copy of passport
• Bank balance certificate
• Parents' employment certificate (for nationals of 21 designated countries)
• Tuberculosis test result copy (for nationals from high-risk tuberculosis countries)

Scholarship

• Types of scholarships:
  • Scholarship for excellent record: 3 high-ranking students in each class every session
  • Undergraduate tuition scholarship: supporting students who enter undergraduate school after completing CNU regular Korean language courses for more than 1 year
• Awarding scholarship: through the student's bank account

The CNU International Language Education Center provides various cultural programs for students to experience real Korean life outside the classroom. These programs include:
