The Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics is a graduate program designed to prepare students for success in one of the country's most promising job markets. Program Overview
The program offers two master's paths in nutrition and dietetics, catering to both aspiring dietitians and currently registered dietitian nutritionists. The admission requirements and application process differ depending on whether the applicant is a current registered dietitian or aspiring to become one.
Admission Requirements
- For aspiring dietitians, applicants must have a DPD Verification Statement and apply to the Ball State Dietetic Internship.
- For currently registered dietitian nutritionists, applicants must hold registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
What You Will Learn

For aspiring dietitians, the program includes an ACEND-approved dietetic internship with a medical nutrition therapy focus, which is required to sit for the dietetic registration examination.
Course Work
- The program can be completed entirely online for registered dietitian nutritionists seeking a master's degree.
- Aspiring dietitians are required to attend an Orientation Week on Ball State's campus and complete their Dietetic Internship off-campus at one of Ball State's affiliated medical centers and community sites. All regular graduate courses are completed online.
Program Requirements
To be eligible for the MS Nutrition and Dietetics program as an aspiring dietitian, applicants must:
- Have a DPD Verification Statement
- Apply to the Ball State Dietetic Internship via the Early Access or DICAS application processes
Program of Study
The program of work includes:
- Research Component: 9-12 credits
- Nutrition Core Courses (Nutrition Assessment, Macronutrients, Micronutrients): 9 credits
- Electives: 15-18 credits (9 credits for the Dietetic Internship)
