Program Overview
Nursing Program
The curriculum in the undergraduate nursing program is designed as an upper-division major. The program requires a strong liberal arts and science base as a prerequisite to nursing courses. Students complete theory courses in the major as well as hospital and community-based clinical practice. Full-time and limited part-time study options are available.
BS in Nursing
The BS in Nursing program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in nursing. The program includes coursework in nursing theory, research, and practice, as well as clinical experiences in a variety of settings.
High School Pathway
The High School Admission Pathway is available to students applying as first-time college students in their senior year of high school. Applicants should apply to the university and indicate nursing as their major of first choice. High School Admission to the Nursing Program is competitive and only the most qualified applicants will be offered admission.
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of Mathematics
- 2 or more years of Science with labs
- 3 years in Social Sciences
College Admission Pathway
The College Admission Pathway is available to students who have completed coursework at another college or university. Students must meet the minimum eligibility requirements, which include:
- 6 of the 9 nursing prerequisite courses must be completed at the time of application with the minimum grade requirement
- 3.0 minimum CUM GPA
- No more than 2 nursing prerequisite repeats
Transfer Students
Transfer students who wish to apply to the Traditional BS Nursing program through the College Admission Pathway must first apply to the university and have an "admitted" decision for the term the student plans to attend. Transfer students must also submit a separate Nursing program application.
Working Adults
The 3-Year Part-Time Program is designed for working adults. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, completed the 9 nursing prerequisite courses, and have either part-time or full-time employment.
Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Completed all 9 prerequisites with the minimum grade requirement
- Complete UG Transfer application
- Submit transcripts, resume, and two professional letters of recommendation
- Provide a personal statement of 150 words or less describing interests and motivations in pursuing a nursing career
Program Requirements
- 6 of the 9 nursing prerequisite courses must be complete with the minimum grade requirement
- 3.0 minimum CUM GPA
- A minimum grade of B- is required for the nursing prerequisites
