Program Overview

Marist University's Physician Assistant Program

Marist University's Physician Assistant (PA) Program has been granted "Accreditation-Continued" status by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). This is the highest level of accreditation a PA program can attain, and the program will not require additional review until 2030.

Program Overview

The PA Program is a 24-month, full-time program designed to prepare students for clinical practice. It consists of one 12-month didactic phase and one 12-month clinical phase, where students work onsite with numerous healthcare partner agencies in the community. The program is housed in Marist's Allied Health Building, which features a state-of-the-art gross anatomy laboratory, standardized patient suites, a trauma simulation room, and a skills laboratory.

Curriculum

The program emphasizes global health and includes seven required core rotations during the clinical year, as well as one elective. Students learn how to care for patients in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, operating room, and emergency room.

Accreditation

The program received full accreditation after a multi-year process, which included three site visits by ARC-PA and a comprehensive analysis of every aspect of the program. The program's first class, admitted in 2016, achieved an impressive 100 percent first-time pass rate on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE).

Faculty and Leadership

The program is led by Director Theresa Horvath and Dean of the School of Science Dr. Alicia Slater. The faculty and administrative leaders have worked tirelessly to produce capable and caring healthcare professionals.
