The Laney Music Industry department offers a comprehensive program in Commercial Music, designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the music industry. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, including music production, audio engineering, songwriting, and music business.

Degree and Certificate
The Commercial Music program offers an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree and a Certificate of Achievement. The A.A. degree is designed for music students whose career goals are focused on the recording industry, concert promotions, and other commercial ventures. The Certificate of Achievement is also designed for music students who want to explore aspects of the music production process, including recording, marketing, and distribution.
Internships and Job Placement
Laney College has established relationships with local businesses and labor unions, providing students with opportunities for internships and job placement in the music industry. The college works with unions such as Local 107, Local 16, and Local 695, which represent technicians, artisans, and other music industry professionals.
