Program Overview
Introduction to the Kaleo Academy
The Kaleo Academy, also known as the Lutheran South Theology Academy, is designed to provide students with opportunities to deepen their faith and prepare them for a Christ-centered vocation in service and leadership to the church.
Overview of the Kaleo Academy
The academy aligns with the Set Apart to Serve church worker initiative and offers a course of study divided into three essential categories: formal theological growth, service/vocational growth, and personal faith development. Students who complete the academy curriculum will receive a special certification on their diplomas.
Course of Study
The course of study is structured as follows:
- Year 1 (Freshman)
- Required Theology Course
- LS Faculty/Staff Interviews
- Church-worker interviews
- Monthly cohort Bible study at school
- Regular church / Bible class attendance
- Year 2 (Sophomore)
- Mentorship in home congregation
- Theology Faculty Interviews
- Para-church research/observations
- Monthly cohort studying the Lutheran Confessions
- Regular church / Bible class attendance
- Year 3 (Junior)
- Required Theology Courses
- Approved service in home congregation
- Volunteer/shadow with a church-work agency
- Serve as Kairos leader
- Regular church / Bible class attendance
- Monthly meeting with Faculty Mentor
- Year 4 (Senior)
- Approved service in home congregation
- Concordia College Visit Tour
- Church Work Vocation Research Project
- Serve as Kairos leader
- Participate in a Spiritual Retreat
- Regular church / Bible class attendance
- Freshman mentorship
- Monthly meeting with Faculty Mentor
Admission to the Kaleo Academy
Students interested in the Kaleo Academy must apply and interview with a Theology Department staff member. The application must be signed by an appropriate representative of a student's home church.
Description of the Kaleo Academy
The Kaleo Academy is open to all students, regardless of denominational affiliation. The academy inspires students through a Christ-centered lens to live courageously and serve faithfully.
