Advanced Transportation and Logistics Program
The Advanced Transportation and Logistics Program at Santa Rosa Junior College is dedicated to equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to excel in the rapidly evolving fields of automotive and medium-heavy duty truck technology.
Program Overview
Through a comprehensive curriculum that integrates cutting-edge industry practices, emerging vehicle technologies, and real-world problem-solving, the program prepares students for advanced entry-level employment and long-term career growth in this dynamic and rewarding industry.
Emphasis and Outcomes
The program emphasizes technical proficiency, critical thinking, and professional development, ensuring that graduates are not only proficient in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance but also prepared to adapt to the future of transportation, including electric and hybrid vehicle technologies.
Facilities and Partnerships
With access to state-of-the-art training facilities, experienced faculty, and strong industry partnerships, students gain the practical expertise and certifications necessary to meet the demands of employers in both the public and private sectors.
Learning Environment
By fostering a learning environment that values innovation, sustainability, and safety, the Advanced Transportation and Logistics Program empowers students to become skilled professionals who contribute to the advancement of the transportation industry while promoting efficiency, environmental responsibility, and technological excellence.
Accreditation
The SRJC Automotive (light duty) courses are accredited by the ASE Education Foundation. The instruction, course of study, facilities, and equipment at SRJC have been evaluated by the ASE Education Foundation and meet standards of quality for the training of automobile technicians at the Master Automobile Service Technology level. The program's accreditation expiration date is 9/1/2028.
Employment Opportunities
There continues to be excellent employment opportunities for trained Advanced Transportation and Logistics Technicians, especially mechanics who have training beyond the high school level. Enrolling in SRJC's Automotive Technology Program can lead to rewarding employment at dealerships, smog stations, and repair facilities locally and across the country.
Technician Responsibilities
Today's Technicians must not only be proficient in the traditional methods of repair and maintenance but also prepared to work with computer-related systems that monitor, control, and maintain information related to the equipment. Trained technicians diagnose and repair malfunctions of internal combustion engines, electrical systems, accessories, transmissions, brakes, steering, air condition, and perform tune-ups and wheel alignments.
Quality Instruction
All Advanced Transportation courses incorporate hands-on learning activities in a shop setting. By studying theory and attaining real-life, practical experience, Advanced Transportation Technology students learn engine repair and rebuilding, electrical systems, transmissions, engine performance, brake and chassis, and emissions control systems.
Licenses and Certifications
Advanced Transportation Technology courses prepare students to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Exams. Courses are also offered to fulfill the Bureau of Automotive Repair education requirements in order for students to take the smog check examination.
Program Notes
