Program Overview
Medical Assisting Program
The SRJC Medical Assisting program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and training to succeed in the medical field. The program has established partnerships with local healthcare organizations, including Sutter, Kaiser, Providence, West County Health Centers, Siyan Clinical, and many other smaller provider offices throughout Sonoma County.
Externship
The externship is a critical component of the program, providing students with hands-on experience and skill-building opportunities. Students attend externship in the Summer semester for a total of 240 hours, after completing all other MA classes. The SRJC MA instructor is not onsite with the student but checks in periodically throughout the externship.
Outrotations
Students may be assigned to attend various clinical outrotations during the externship, which exposes them to more aspects of healthcare that they would not have experienced at their assigned clinical home site. These outrotations may include EKG, Diagnostic Imaging, Urgent Care, Lab, and other clinical sites.
