Certified Nursing Assistant Program
The Certified Nursing Assistant Program is designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified nursing assistants.
Program Requirements
To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be 16 years of age or older. However, to apply to SRJC, you must be 18 years or older, a high school graduate, or have passed the high school proficiency exam.
- If currently in high school or under the age of 18, submit a High School Concurrent Enrollment form along with the SRJC Application.
- Not be on academic probation or progress probation. Contact a Health Sciences Counselor if you have any questions.
- All students starting the Nurse Assistant Program must be fingerprinted. Criminal background screening must be completed, and the student must be cleared of criminal convictions before being certified by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
- Have a valid California Identification photo card or valid California Driver's License, and a Social Security card or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number).
- Possess sound physical and mental health, enabling them to meet the physical demands of this profession.
- Refrain from drug and alcohol abuse and agree to abide by the College's standard of conduct.
- Have the ability to read and write English at a 10th grade level. It is advised that students complete English 100 and/or EMLS 100 to assure success in this program.
- Have basic knowledge of computers.
Counseling
Students are advised to make an appointment with a Health Sciences Counselor.
Transcripts/Foreign Transcripts
Although a high school diploma is not required by this program, students who have a high school diploma or college degree from a school outside the United States must see the Admissions and Records Technician in the Health Sciences Department.
Clinical Site Requirements
A completed Health Evaluation Form, record of immunizations, and Health Care CPR are required to start clinical practice. Transportation to clinical sites is the responsibility of each student. Clinical sites are usually located in Santa Rosa and surrounding Sonoma County cities.
Program Details
The program includes a series of courses designed to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified nursing assistants. The program is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
