Program Overview


Introduction to the Argentina Summer 2026 Program

The Argentina Summer 2026 program offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersections of humanities, communication, and culture through the lens of Buenos Aires and Argentina. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of intercultural communication and conversational Spanish.


Why Study Intercultural Communication and Conversational Spanish in Argentina?

Argentina is a country that blends European and Latin American influences, making it an ideal location for studying intercultural communication and conversational Spanish. The program will allow students to explore the country's vibrant culture, including its passionate tango dance and music, street art scene, and diverse landscapes of natural beauty.


Highlights of Activities and Field Trips

The program includes a range of activities and field trips, such as:


  • Sightseeing and walking tours of Buenos Aires
  • Many museum visits
  • Walking tour of the street art of Palermo
  • Tango show
  • Tango class
  • Empanada cooking class
  • Weekend to Mendoza (including views of glaciers and a wine tasting tour)
  • Optional overnight excursion to Iguazu Falls (at an additional cost of $795)

Program Logistics

  • Students participating in this program will earn units in courses taught by Santa Rosa Junior College faculty.
  • The program is offered in partnership with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS), which arranges excursions, transportation, living accommodations, and a wide range of student support services.
  • Units earned on this trip will appear on transcripts issued by Santa Rosa Junior College.
  • The program is open to students aged 18 and older with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or more.
  • Students will be required to take COMM 7 (Intercultural Communication) and SPAN 50A or SPAN 50B (Spanish Conversation for Beginners, parts 1 or 2, depending on proficiency) for a total of 6 units.

Accommodations and Transportation

  • Accommodations will be in twin-bedded rooms in centrally-located studio apartments in Buenos Aires.
  • Each unit contains an equipped kitchenette, living space, and bathroom, and paid laundry facilities on-site.
  • Linens and towels, and free wireless internet are provided.
  • For a reduction of $400, students can opt to stay in a homestay accommodation based on twin-occupancy instead.
  • A travel pass loaded for unlimited travel on the metro and buses in the central zone of Buenos Aires will be included for the duration of the program.
  • Transportation will be included for all excursions and travel days.

Program Dates

  • Depart U.S.: Sunday, May 31, 2026
  • Arrive in Buenos Aires: Monday, June 1, 2026
  • Depart Buenos Aires: Saturday, June 27, 2026

Application Deadline

  • The deadline to apply and place a deposit has been extended to Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Program Costs and Scholarships

  • The AIFS program costs will have a base price of $4,595.
  • These costs will include all lodging, scheduled field trips, medical insurance, and AIFS services.
  • They will not include airfare, day-to-day expenses such as meals (except as indicated), optional Iguazu Falls trip, and class tuition and books.
  • AIFS will be offering a group flight option at additional cost, which will also include transportation from the airport in Buenos Aires to the first night's destination.
  • There will be one AIFS scholarship available for $500, provided the student is willing to maintain a blog/vlog.
  • Financial aid in the summer is more limited than in the fall and spring, but the Promise Grant and the Pell Grant are still available for qualifying students.

AIFS Refund Dates and Cancellation Fees

  • Refund requests must be done in writing to AIFS.
  • Dates to remember regarding AIFS refunds once enrolled in the program:
    • Friday, March 6, 2026: Last day to request a refund of the $450 deposit less $150 in processing and non-refundable fees.
    • Friday, April 3, 2026: Total program fee is due. No refund of payments after this date.
