Introduction to the Queens College Service Corps
The Queens College Service Corps (QCSC) is a university program that mobilizes students to intern in local nonprofit organizations and work on projects that improve the civic, economic, educational, and environmental sustainability of New York City. The internships help support participating students' success in college and preparation for the workplace by providing valuable skill-building opportunities and exposure to real-world careers.
Program Overview
The QCSC program engages students in internships that aim to improve the civic, economic, and environmental sustainability of New York City while building important professional skills. Students are placed with nonprofit community partners and will work over the Spring academic semester and earn up to $2,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Service Corps program, students must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in at least 12 credits for the upcoming Spring semester
- Earned at least 12 credits towards their degree
- Have work authorization in the U.S.
- Have a 2.5 minimum GPA
Program Requirements
The general program requirements for Service Corps include:
- Attend a mandatory hybrid orientation
- Attend an in-person Matching Fair with community partners
- Attend mandatory monthly Professional Development sessions during free hour
- Work 10 hours per week at a nonprofit community partner organization in the Spring semester
- Complete a service project in addition to internship hours
- Complete reflection activities
- Submit timesheets in a timely manner
Internship Details
- Interns earn up to $2,000.
- Interns must work 10 hours each week at their site.
- Each intern will work with their internship supervisor to create an individual schedule that works for them both.
- Internship site supervisors have been made aware that students are full-time students.
Additional Information
- International students may apply so long as they have a Social Security Number and meet all other eligibility requirements.
- Students planning to graduate at the end of the upcoming Fall semester are not eligible to participate in Service Corps.
- There are a few hybrid internships, but there is no guarantee that a placement site will have a hybrid option.
- Students can work another job while participating in Service Corps, but they must still be able to commit to all Service Corps program requirements.
