Program Overview
Introduction to the Physics Program
The Physics Department offers the B.Sc. and B.A. degrees in Physics, enabling graduates to pursue graduate studies in Physics, qualify for positions in industrial and government laboratories, or pursue careers in related fields such as Science Education and Engineering. Physics graduates have also successfully entered the fields of Astronomy, Biophysics, Astrophysics, Computer Science, and Medicine.
Program Tracks
There are two tracks for the B.A. in Physics:
- Physics
- Applied Physics
Program Requirements
In addition to the college-wide residency requirement, the Physics Department requires that all students graduating from Queens College with an undergraduate degree in Physics shall have no less than 50% of their credits in their Physics major taken at Queens College. This requirement does not include introductory physics courses (145, 146, 121, and 122) as well as mathematics courses.

The Physics Department offers the following degree options:
- B.A. in Physics
- B.A. in Applied Physics
- B.Sc. in Physics
Course Sequence
The recommended sequence of Physics courses for all majors is typically completed within three years for Fall semester registrants or four years for Spring semester registrants.
Residency Requirement
The Physics Department has a residency requirement, which states that students must complete at least 50% of their Physics major credits at Queens College, excluding introductory physics and mathematics courses.
