Program Overview

BBA in Finance

The BBA in Finance program at Queens College is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of financial decision-making concepts. The curriculum is constructed to offer students opportunities to practice what is taught through real-world applications based on spreadsheet modeling, forecasting, regression analysis, and firm valuation. This major prepares students for future graduate study in business and equips them with the necessary experience to pursue a graduate degree.

Concentrations

The finance major includes two concentrations:

  • FinTech: This concentration offers career opportunities for those interested in learning how institutions and technology are evolving in the fast-moving and growing space of finance and technology. It combines institutional studies with advanced econometric techniques, covering topics such as cryptocurrencies and blockchains.
  • Corporate Finance: Students in this concentration learn to answer job interview questions about capital structure, the CAPM, machine learning, forecasting, cryptocurrency, and stock market efficiency.

Requirements for Finance Majors

To be admitted into the finance major, students must meet the following requirements:

  1. A GPA of 2.5 (subject to revision) in the first four courses listed for the major.
  2. A minimum GPA of 2.0 for courses taken for the major in finance at Queens College.
  3. No individual grade below C- is accepted.
  4. No more than 21 credits can be transferred into the program from other colleges.

Additional Opportunities

Finance majors may also minor in Financial Modeling, which is offered through the Computer Science department. It is recommended that students take MATH 141 (or 151) instead of MATH 131 because it provides access to other courses in Math and Computer Science, is a great investment for future courses, and is a prerequisite for the Financial Modeling Minor.
