Master of Arts in Music Theory
The Master of Arts in Music Theory is a preparatory program for students hoping to continue onto a doctoral degree. It is ideal for any student wanting to think deeply about the way music is constructed. Classes provide a solid foundation in music theory and analysis, introducing students to critical thinking, disciplinary literacy, and recent trends in music scholarship.
Program Overview
Students work closely with faculty mentors to develop research skills, analytic techniques, and written fluency. The degree culminates in the completion of a master's thesis. After the completion of the first semester, students are able to enroll in a select number of doctoral seminars at the CUNY Graduate Center.
Accelerated MA in Music Theory
Advanced and academically curious students in undergraduate programs can apply for the Accelerated MA in Music Theory, taking up to 12 credits of master's level work during the undergraduate degree at undergraduate tuition rates.

Location and Hours
The program is located in the Music Building, Room 203, at Queens College, CUNY. The office hours are:
- Monday – Thursday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
- Friday: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (Remote)
