Introduction to CUNY ARMY ROTC
The City University of New York (CUNY) Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) is a leadership program that offers students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and earn a commission as an Army Officer upon graduation.
What is ROTC?
ROTC is a leadership program that provides students with 24 elective credits that coincide with a four-year college degree program, resulting in a commission as an Army Officer (Second Lieutenant) upon graduation. The program is designed to develop students' leadership skills, military skills, and adventure training.
Course Information
The CUNY Army ROTC program offers various courses, including:

Basic Camp
Basic Camp is a 31-day training event designed to introduce Cadets to the Army. The objective is to develop Cadet leadership skills and train them on individual and junior leader tasks to develop and reinforce Warrior Ethos and Army Values.
Advanced Camp
Advanced Camp is a 37-day training event that assesses a Cadet's ability to demonstrate proficiency in basic officer leadership tasks. The training is complex, challenging, and rigorous, and is conducted in a stressful training environment.
How to Join
To join the CUNY Army ROTC program, students can follow these steps:
- High School Students: Apply for an ROTC scholarship by visiting the Go Army ROTC Scholarships website.
- College Students: Participate in the Army ROTC Basic Course by enrolling in a military science course at either the City College of New York or York College.
- Nursing Students: Participate in the Nurse Summer Training Program, which assigns Cadets to Army hospitals throughout the U.S. and Germany.
- Graduate Students: Attend the Cadet Initial Entry Training and participate in the Advanced Course during their final two years as a graduate student.
- Prior Military Service: Soldiers who are currently in the National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve can participate in the Army ROTC through the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP).
