Program Overview

Introduction to College Now

College Now is a free college transition and dual enrollment program designed for New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) high school students. The program aims to enable NYCPS high school students to develop academic momentum toward a college degree, make informed choices about college, and understand how their education can lead to a rewarding career.

History of College Now

The program was initiated in 1984 at Kingsborough Community College with an initial enrollment of 449 students. A significant partnership was formed in 2000 between the City University of New York (CUNY) and NYCPS to expand College Now to all CUNY undergraduate colleges.

Program Objectives

  • Develop academic momentum toward a college degree
    • Allow high school students to experience college-level coursework
    • Foster an understanding of the expectations and rigors of college studies
  • Make informed choices about college
    • Expose students to various college environments and programs
    • Help students navigate the college selection and application process
  • Learn how education can lead to a rewarding career
    • Introduce students to career options and pathways
    • Emphasize the importance of education in career development and success

Program Expansion and Partnership

The partnership between CUNY and NYCPS has been instrumental in expanding the College Now program, making it accessible to a broader range of high school students across New York City. This expansion has facilitated the growth of the program, enabling more students to benefit from early college experiences and academic preparation.
