Program Overview
Introduction to the Made in NY Media Academy Music Production Bootcamp
The Made in NY Media Academy Music Production Bootcamp is an innovative training program offered by Queensborough Community College, in partnership with the NYC Department of Small Business Services and the Mayor's Office for Media and Entertainment. This program combines music production techniques with hands-on experience in recording studio environments, equipping participants with the skills needed for careers in the music and recording industries.
Program Description
The Music Production Bootcamp is designed to provide participants with a strong foundation in the Audio Recording Arts and Sciences. The program focuses on practical skills in music production, mixing, sound design, and more, using up-to-date, industry-standard software. Additionally, participants will be trained on synthesizers for music production, learning to operate an electronic music synthesizer, integrate custom sounds into music composition, and create melodies and rhythms.
Training Components
The program consists of the following components:
- Music Production Certification (10-12 weeks)
- Audio Recording Arts & Sciences
- Production, mixing, sound design
- Pro Tools 101
- Held in QCC technology labs & multi-track studios
- Synthesizers for Music Production
- Electronic synthesizer operations
- Custom sound creation
- Melodies, rhythms, song arrangement
- Final audio-visual project
- Work Readiness for Music Careers
- Professional Development Workshops
- Resume & cover letter development
- Portfolio building
- Networking & job search techniques
- Mock interviews, pitch practice
- Pro Tools 110 Certification Exam Access
- Placement Support (3 months post-training)
Participant Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, participants must:
- Be a NYC resident
- Be 18+ years old
- Be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Be Selective Service compliant (if applicable)
- Have a high school diploma or HSE
- Have an annual income less than $60,000 (if currently employed)
- Provide documentation for all eligibility criteria
- Show commitment to working in the music production field
- Show commitment to traveling to Queensborough Community College for in-person training
- Commitment to training schedule, sessions on 2 weekday evenings, and a session on Saturday (No more than 3 unexcused absences)
Case Management & Support
Participants will receive:
- Assigned case manager
- Regular check-ins & progress monitoring
- Post-training follow-up until employment
Employment Services & Placement
QCC provides the following services for at least 3 months after training:
- Job search coaching
- Resume & cover letter help
- Interview prep
- Networking support
- Access to industry events
- Weekly 1:1 job search support
- Employer connections in music, media, and entertainment
- Assistance securing full-time, part-time, project-based, and work-based learning roles
Certification
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Queensborough Community College, as well as Pro Tools 101 certification.
