Requirements
Degree Requirements
To earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, students must fulfill the following requirements:
- Earn at least 120 credits
- Earn at least 30 credits in residence at Queens College
- Earn at least 90 credits in Liberal Arts and Sciences Content Courses
- Earn a minimum GPA of 2.0
General Education Requirements
Common Core
Students must complete the following requirements:
- Complete at least 2 courses in Required Core English Composition
- Complete at least 1 course in Required Core Mathematical and Quantitative Reasoning
- Complete at least 1 course in Required Core Life and Physical Sciences
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core World Cultures and Global Issues
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core U.S. Experience in Its Diversity
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core Creative Expression
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core Individual and Society
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core Scientific World
- Complete at least 1 course in Flexible Core Any Area
- No more than two courses in any discipline or interdisciplinary field.
College Option
Students must complete the following requirements:
- Literature: Complete at least 1 course in College Option Literature
- Language: Complete at least 1 course in College Option Language
- Science: Complete at least 1 course in College Option Science
- An Additional Course: Complete at least 1 course in College Option Literature, Language, Science, Required Core Life and Physical Sciences, Flexible Core Any Area, or College Option Synthesis
Writing Intensive Requirements
Students must complete at least 2 Writing Intensive courses.
Major Requirements
Overall
Students must earn at least 33 credits in economics and business courses, including:
- MATH 131 or the equivalent
- ECON 101 or 103, 102 or 104, 202 or 225, 201 or 226, and 249 and 382
- Transfer students must take at least 18 credits of economics at Queens College
- All students must have a C average in the 6 required Economics courses
- A combined average of C must also be obtained in the 6 required economics courses plus the four electives
Core
Students must complete the following courses:
- MATH 131 - Calculus with Applications to the Social Sciences I
- ECON 101 - Introduction to Macroeconomics or ECON 103 - The Global Economy
- ECON 102 - Introduction to Microeconomics or ECON 104 - The Market Society
- ECON 202 - Price Theory or ECON 225 - Price Theory (Mathematics Emphasis)
- ECON 201 - Macro-Economic Analysis or ECON 226 - Macroeconomic Analysis (Mathematics Emphasis)
- ECON 249 - Statistics as Applied to Economics and Business
- ECON 382 - Introduction to Econometrics
Elective
Students must complete at least 4 courses in Economics Electives, which must be at or above the 200 level in Economics (ECON), Business (BUS), or Finance (FIN) courses.
