English Language Institute (ELI)
The English Language Institute (ELI) at the City College of New York (CCNY) provides intensive instruction and practice for non-native speakers who want to improve their English skills for academic and professional development.
About ELI
ELI offers in-person intensive instruction on the CCNY campus. The program prepares international and local students to study at American universities and enhance their academic success and employability.
Eligibility
- International students must apply for an F-1 student visa to study in the program.
- NYC residents can apply through the NYC Resident Application Form.
Application Process
- International students must complete the International Student Application Form.
- NYC residents must complete the NYC Resident Application Form.
- After applying, students will receive a Next Steps Email with further instructions on how to pay tuition, take a level test, and be admitted to the program.
Tuition and Fees
- The tuition cost for a semester or for three sessions is $2700 plus a $25 registration fee.
- International students are required to register for at least three sessions.
- Each session costs $900 plus a $25 registration fee.
- A payment plan is available.
Class Schedule
- Classes are held Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including a half-hour lunch break.
- Each session is five weeks long, with 20 in-person classes totaling 90 hours of intensive instruction.
- One semester comprises three five-week intensive sessions and is approximately four to five months long.
Levels
- Upon admission, students receive a link to an online multiple-choice test to assess their proficiency level for program placement and instruction.
- Levels run from Beginner to Advanced.
Class Cancellation
- ELI reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment.
- In such cases, applicants will be immediately notified by email.
