English Language Institute (ELI)

The English Language Institute (ELI) at the City College of New York (CCNY) provides intensive instruction and practice for non-native speakers who want to improve their English skills for academic and professional development.

ELI offers in-person intensive instruction on the CCNY campus. The program prepares international and local students to study at American universities and enhance their academic success and employability.

Eligibility

• International students must apply for an F-1 student visa to study in the program.
• NYC residents can apply through the NYC Resident Application Form.

Application Process

• International students must complete the International Student Application Form.
• NYC residents must complete the NYC Resident Application Form.
• After applying, students will receive a Next Steps Email with further instructions on how to pay tuition, take a level test, and be admitted to the program.

Tuition and Fees

• The tuition cost for a semester or for three sessions is $2700 plus a $25 registration fee.
• International students are required to register for at least three sessions.
• Each session costs $900 plus a $25 registration fee.
• A payment plan is available.

Class Schedule

• Classes are held Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including a half-hour lunch break.
• Each session is five weeks long, with 20 in-person classes totaling 90 hours of intensive instruction.
• One semester comprises three five-week intensive sessions and is approximately four to five months long.

Levels

• Upon admission, students receive a link to an online multiple-choice test to assess their proficiency level for program placement and instruction.
• Levels run from Beginner to Advanced.

Class Cancellation

• ELI reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment.
• In such cases, applicants will be immediately notified by email.

Immigration Questions

• The program does not answer questions about immigration.
• Students should contact the International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS) for immigration-related inquiries.
