Program Overview
Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs
The Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College offers several MSW programs, each with its unique characteristics and requirements.
Two-Year Program
The Two-Year Full-Time Program is designed for students who can devote themselves to full-time study in social work. Students attend classes two days a week and are in field placement two days a week. The program requires 60 academic credits, which can be completed in two years.
Curriculum
The curriculum for the Two-Year Program includes the following courses:
- Clinical Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups Method
- Community Organizing Planning & Development Method
- Organizational Management & Leadership (OML)
Requirements
To be admitted to the Two-Year Program, applicants must:
- Meet the General Requirements
- Submit two letters of recommendation
- Provide transcripts from their undergraduate and graduate colleges
- Write a statement of purpose (recommended 3-4 pages)
One-Year Residency Program
The One-Year Residency Program (OYR) is a work-study program designed for full-time social service workers. The program requires 60 credits, which can be completed in five semesters plus two intervening summers.

- Community Organizing Planning & Development Method
- Organizational Management & Leadership (OML)
Requirements
To be admitted to the One-Year Residency Program, applicants must:
- Meet the General Requirements
- Submit an Agency Executive Agreement Form with signature
- Provide an Agency Executive Letter of Recommendation
- Submit one letter of recommendation (professional or academic)
- Provide transcripts from their undergraduate and graduate colleges
- Write a statement of purpose (recommended 3-4 pages)
Advanced Standing Program
The Advanced Standing Program is designed for students who have earned a baccalaureate in social work (BSW) degree from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program. The program requires 36 credits, which can be completed in three semesters.

Requirements
To be admitted to the Advanced Standing Program, applicants must:
- Meet the General Requirements
- Submit two Core Competency Forms
- Provide transcripts from their undergraduate and graduate colleges
- Write a statement of purpose (recommended 3-4 pages)
- Provide a practice example from fieldwork experience
Accelerated Full-Time Program
The Accelerated Full-Time Program is an intensive program for outstanding students who can devote themselves to full-time study. The program requires 60 credits, which can be completed in five semesters.

Dual Degree M.S.W. & M.S.Ed.
The Dual Degree program is a collaboration between the Silberman School of Social Work and the Bank Street College of Education. The program focuses on infant and family development and early intervention, requiring 85 credits.

The curriculum for the Dual Degree program includes courses from both the Silberman School of Social Work and the Bank Street College of Education.
