Program Overview


Master of Science in Early Childhood Education: Birth-Grade 2 (MSEd)

The Master of Science in Early Childhood program prepares students to teach children from birth to grade 2.


Degree Requirements

The program offers two tracks:


  • Sequence 1: consists of 33 graduate credits, designed for college graduates who have completed the course requirements for the initial teaching certification.
  • Sequence 2: consists of 48 graduate credits, designed for college graduates who have not completed programs leading to initial certification.

Upon satisfactory completion of the program, students will have met the academic requirements for:


  • New York State initial teaching certification (Sequence 1)
  • Initial certification in childhood education (Sequence 2)

Admissions Requirements

Sequence 1

  • Completed coursework required for the New York State Initial Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education or its equivalent in another state
  • Baccalaureate degree in liberal arts and science or 36 credits in liberal arts and sciences concentration with at least six credits each in mathematics and laboratory science
  • Overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0

Sequence 2

  • Baccalaureate degree in liberal arts and science or 36 credits in liberal arts and sciences concentration with at least six credits each in mathematics and laboratory science
  • Overall undergraduate grade point average of 3.0
