Introduction to the CLEAR Clinic

The Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR) Clinic is a unique program that supports Muslim, Arab, South Asian, and other communities in the New York City area and beyond who are targeted by local, state, or federal government agencies under the guise of national security and counterterrorism.

Mandate and Approach

The CLEAR Clinic's mandate is to provide support and services to communities and movements whose members wish to shape and respond to law enforcement policies and practices affecting them. The clinic's community-oriented and movement-building approach combines free legal representation with other services directed at satisfying the fuller range of community concerns.

Services Provided

The CLEAR Clinic provides three primary services free of charge:

  • Legal representation and consultation
  • Know-your-rights workshops
  • Support for community organizing

Unique Features

The CLEAR Clinic is the only organization in the larger New York City area that systematically provides this range of support and services free of charge. This makes it a vital resource for communities who are often marginalized and overlooked.

Relationship with Communities

The clinic's work is defined by its relationships with communities and movements. By working closely with these groups, the CLEAR Clinic is able to provide tailored support and services that address the specific needs and concerns of each community.

Conclusion

The CLEAR Clinic is a groundbreaking program that provides critical support and services to communities who are often targeted and marginalized. By combining free legal representation with community organizing and know-your-rights workshops, the clinic is able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of its clients and the broader community.
