Program Overview
The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Program offers a certificate-level training in emergency medical services, designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified EMTs. The program's goal is to prepare competent entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians-Basics in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains.
Program Objectives
The program prepares students to sit for the NYS EMT-Basic examination and the national Registry Exam, which is required to begin work in this field within the state(s) where students are located. It also provides clinical experience to get students acclimated to the EMS field.
Program Requirements
- Students must complete all required class components of didactic coursework, hands-on labs, as well as a minimum of 24 hours of clinical rotations on NYC 911 providing ambulance.
- Eligibility requirements:
- Must be 17 years of age or older.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a pre-registration screening placement exam (reading comprehension exam).
Career Opportunities
Qualified graduates will have the option to be on a direct path to become a Paramedic through the paramedic program and/or apply the 6 college credits towards a college degree.
