Program Overview


Admission to Registered Nursing Program (RN)

The Registered Nursing Program (RN) at BMCC is a competitive program that requires prospective students to meet specific admission criteria. To be considered for admission, students must first be admitted to BMCC and then apply to the Nursing program.


Program Requirements

To be eligible for the Nursing program, students must:


  • Meet all general admissions requirements to BMCC
  • Complete the five required prerequisite courses:
    • ENG 101
    • PSY 100
    • MAT 104
    • CHE 121
    • BIO 425
  • These courses can only be repeated once for a higher grade to be considered for admission
  • Maintain a Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5
  • Earn a minimum grade of 'C' in each of the required prerequisite courses

Transfer Credit

The Nursing program has specific policies regarding transfer credit.


HESI A2 Nursing Admission Test

Students interested in entering the BMCC Nursing Program must take the HESI A2 Nursing Admission Test, administered by the Department of Nursing. This examination may be taken for a maximum of two times, but not in the same semester.


HESI A2 Exam Schedule

The HESI A2 Nursing Admission Test is generally given in:


  • May for Fall Admission
  • December for Spring Admission Students can apply to take the test between:
  • January and May 15th for Fall Admission
  • August and November 15th for Spring Admission

Application Deadline

The application deadlines for the RN Program are:


  • May 15th for Fall Admission
  • November 15th for Spring Admission

Additional Information

The New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Part-Time Tuition Assistance Program (PTAP) may not cover a repeated required prerequisite course. Prospective students are advised to review the program's policies and requirements carefully before applying.
